Ong Kim Swee hands Piya national call-up

The astute tactician has officially picked his first ever national team squad for their upcoming matches against the Philippines and Yemen
Interim Malaysian national team head coach, Datuk Ong Kim Swee has handed Kelantan skipper Piya a call-up, after impressing for the Red Warriors this year.

Piya was always a controversial name associated to the national team squad, with former head coach Datuk K Rajagopal not including the Kelantan midfielder in his plans most of the time.

But besides Piya, Pahang's Hafiz Kamal, Razman Roslan and Khairul Azhan have all been called up as well, although influential playmaker Azidan Sarudin missed out surprisingly, despite his terrific form this season. Another Pahang name that failed to make the cut despite being excellent this year is, R. Gopinathan.

PDRM forward Bobby Gonzales will also join the squad, while Amiridzwan Taj has also been rewarded for his excellent performances with ATM, be receiving a call-up.

Seasoned names like Amri Yahya, Safiq Rahim, S Kunanlan, Norshahrul Idlan and Safee Sali have all been included as well. Sarawak's Junior Eldstal and PKNS' Nazmi Faiz have also made the cut.

All players are scheduled to report for duty on the 19th of February, and they will be taking on Philippines in a friendly match on the 1st of March. The squad will then travel to the United Arab Emirates to face Yemen in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
