Harimau Muda A head coach Ong Kim Swee is open to the idea of being assistant coach for Philippe Troussier if the Frenchman takes charge of the Malaysian national team.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are edging closer towards a move that would see Troussier not only become head coach, but also technical director of football in the country. They are apparently also keen on having Ong as an assistant to Troussier and the man himself is open to the idea.
"If that is what FAM wants, I'm definitely ready to do it," he told Utusan Malaysia.
"I would do it because Troussier is a world class coach with plenty of experience. Obviously, I will not let go of the opportunity. It will benefit me thoroughly in terms of my own career as a coach, but it all depends on FAM.
"Though FAM have promised to renew my contract for two more years, I have not officially signed anything on paper, irrespective of whether it's for Harimau Muda or the national team.
"Let me think about Harimau Muda first, because the main aim now is the Asian Games in South Korea next year.
As of now, Ong Kim Swee is the interim head coach of the national team. FAM officials are expected to fly into Morocco soon, where Troussier currently resides, and close a deal that will see the ex-Japan head coach take charge of the Malayan Tigers.
