The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general has denied rumours linking former Japan coach Phillipe Troussier to the national head coach position

The FAM secretary-general, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, shot down speculation suggesting former Japan coach Philippe Troussier will be on his way to replace Datuk K. Rajagopal as the new head coach for the Malaysia national team.

According to him, if there is any news regarding this issue, the FAM will announce it, and he also insisted that they will not rush into making any decisions.

Some of the recent reports on social networks claimed that the FAM are currently in negotiations with Troussier, who took Japan into the last 16 round during the 2002 World Cup.

Hamidin also added that the task of appointing a new coach will not disrupt Ong Kim Swee, the current interim coach, as he prepares the team to face Yemen next year.

Last month the FAM decided that they will not extend K.Rajagopal’s contract, which will end on the 31st December, and they have appointed the Young Tigers coach Ong Kim Swee as interim head coach for the national team before they appoint a new permanent head coach for the team.

“I am confident that in a month or two, we can finalize the names of coaches that suit the job,” he added.
