The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) have admitted that they have no choice but to accept the decision of national striker Safee Sali to stay with Johor Darul Takzim (JDT), despite his verbal agreement to return to the Red Giants next season.
The Vice-president of the FAS, Datuk Abdu Mokhtar, said he understood the u-turn decision and the current scenario of local football.
According to Sinar Harian, he said: "In our last meeting, Safee and I agreed that he will return to Selangor with the stipulated monthly salary between us.
"He mentioned to me that he does not wish to play in the Malaysian Premier League if he stays with Johor for the new season and with that factor, Safee wanted to return to Selangor and we were ready to accept him.
"But we have been informed by a third party that JDT want to keep Safee in the Super League and we have no choice but to accept that fact."
Questions regarding Safee Sali's future were answered when Johor’s official website confirmed that he will remain with the Southern Tigers next season.
Safee also stated in the website that he is excited to play with Cesar Ferrando Jimenez.
"I hope he will be successful wherever he plays, and we will always remember what he did with Selangor," Mokhtar added.
