Johor Darul Takzim's triumphant 4-2 win over defending champions Kelantan in the first leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-final not only brought smile to the fans, but also gave overwhelming satisfaction to coach Azmi Ibrahim.
The head coach stated that all of his players went out to play that night with high spirits following their defeat against the same opponent during the FA Cup final last June.
He also said that their strategy and planning were well executed by their strikers which resulted in the win.
Azmi said, “The win is a satisfying result. I reminded the players of the FA Cup defeat, and they came out determined to win. All the players followed my orders and they did not waste the chances. Our defence was shaky, but the strikers did really well.”
He hopes that his players will keep their momentum and remain focused with the task at hand.
Azmi added that he will come up with a more effective strategy to make sure they do not lose their two-goal advantage over Kelantan.
“JDT has a chance to qualify for the semi-finals if the players stay focused and remain disciplined over the second leg later on,” he added.
