Malaysia Under-16 score second win in the 2014 AFC Championship qualifiers after a good showing against South Korea

Malaysia boast a good standing in the 2014 AFC Under-16 Championship qualification rounds after seeing off South Korea in a 2-0 victory on Friday.

With the result at the National Sports Complex Stadium in Vientiane, Laos, the Young Tigers move up second in Group H with seven points after two wins and a draw.

A first-half strike from Mohd Najmuddin Samat, along with Mohd Amirul Ashraf Ariffin’s on 61-minute mark, was enough to record an emphatic win for the Malaysia U16 side.

However, they still trail Laos in the group based on an inferior goal difference, after the competition’s hosts cruised past Brunei 3-0.

The Young Tigers, led by S. Balachandran, have done well so far in the qualifying stages, drawing 1-1 with Laos and thumping Brunei 8-0.

Bottom-dwellers Guam are next on the list for the Malaysians on Sunday while the South Koreans, who sit at third, will take on the hosts.

Malaysia are one of 43 participating teams in the 2014 AFC U16 Championship qualifiers while only 15 teams will qualify for the finals in Thailand next year.

Winners of each of the 10 groups plus five of the best second-placed teams stand a chance to vie for the trophy.
