It's a shame that I couldn't play in Malaysia, says Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has apologised for not featuring for Barcelona in their pre-season match against Malaysia XI last weekend.

The crowd even booed Barca's team off the pitch at the end of the game, although Gerrardo Martino explained that Messi was having a muscle strain.

Nonetheless, the man himself has now issued a public message, claiming that it was a "shame" for him to not play in Malaysia.

"It's a shame I couldn't play in Malaysia because of muscle strain.

"Hopefully one day I can [play] to repay the love you have given me," Messi posted in his official Facebook page.

The Argentinean forward was predictably the main attraction of Barca's visit to the Southeast Asian nation, but he disappointed almost 50,000 people who packed into the Shah Alam Stadium, as he remained on the bench for the entire match.
