thumbnail Hello,

Goal analyses the upcoming clash between Harimau Malaya and Chelsea FC to bring you five key battles to look out for at the Shah Alam Stadium this Sunday

AIDIL ZAFUAN VS DEMBA BA

The only key battle selected that will see the clash between two players who are fasting as both Ba and Aidil are Muslims. Having started from the bench against Singha All Stars, Ba is expected to feature upfront for Chelsea on Sunday. With rumours flying around about potential transfer move for Wayne Rooney, Ba will want to fully utilise every opportunity given to him and show his new (old) boss that he’s worth a place in the squad. Aidil will have to ensure that he does not fall for the tricks and flicks of the Senegalese. The former Newcastle forward does not stay central all the time and our centreback from JDT will have to keep a watchful eye on Ba’s movement.

NIK SHAHRUL VS EDEN HAZARD

The Belgian wing wizard will relish his chances against Mahalli Jasuli’s understudy in Nik Shahrul. The Kelantan rightback is raw at international level (though, this is not an international match) and there’s no doubt that Hazard will be the toughest opponent that he has faced in his fledging footballing career thus far. Nik will do well to stay on his feet and not jump in for tackles at every opportunity, knowing how Hazard likes to do drag backs. Mourinho will be looking at Hazard to be the inventive hub and if Nik fails to keep a tight lid on the winger, then we might be staring at a big defeat.

ASRARUDDIN PUTRA VS ANDRE SCHURRLE

The Selangor captain will have his hands full if he comes up against the upcoming German star in Schurrle. The former Bayer Leverkusen forward is on a mission to impress not only his new manager, but also the Blues fan base, and as such, he has more to prove than others. Schurrle has the pace and energy to trouble the best in the world, a category which Asraruddin is not in. The Selangor centreback and Harimau Malaya leftback, will do well to fend off Schurrle and protect his space than try to go in and win the ball early from the German. This battle could turn into a nightmare for the home side.

AMRI YAHYAH VS JOHN TERRY

Battle of the 32-year-olds sees Amri going up against Terry. The mercurial Amri has scored against a Premier League team before (Manchester United) and will be looking to repeat that feat on Sunday. Playing against players who are bigger and faster than him, Amri will have to use his repertoire of skills to find the opening that he needs to have a go at Petr Cech. With Terry only just coming back from injury that kept him out at the back end of last season, fitness levels could favour the Malaysian. Terry will be at Shah Alam Stadium, but this time, he will actually be playing.

NAZRIN NAWI VS BRANISLAV IVANOVIC

The in-form Nazrin Nawi against the man bitten by Suarez - this is another battle worth keeping our eyes on. Nazrin has finally come to the fore this season and aided by his recent scoring run, he should be full of confidence going up against the dependable Ivanovic. The Serbian was an ever-present figure in Chelsea’s defence last season and you’ll rarely find him having a poor match. Such is the tough task awaiting Nazrin on Sunday. What the Negeri Sembilan man has going for him is his unknown qualities, in the sense that Ivanovic isn’t familiar with his game style and could end up struggling if Nazrin puts on a show.
