FC Ryukyu’s Nazirul Naim Che Hashim is backed by Harimau Muda ‘A’ coach, Ong Kim Swee (OKS), to help Malaysia in the 2013 World University Games (WUG) in Kazan, Russia next month.
Sinar Harian reported that OKS has faith in Nazirul’s defensive capabilities which would do well to snub their opponents’ attack despite the fact that the 20-year-old was never featured in his club's first team.
Ong announced on his Twitter yesterday that only three of the eight he called up will be joining the squad in preparations for the upcoming tournament.
Sime Darby’s K. Prabhakaran and ATM’s K. Reuben are the other two that will join Nazirul in the Young Tigers’ set up.
OKS wrote: “Only three players have been selected while the rest have been left out due to their commitment to their clubs that are playing out the end of their respective leagues.”
The five players who were left out include Zubir Azmi (Terengganu), Junior Eldstal (Sarawak), S. Sivanesan (Negeri Sembilan), Nik Shahrul (Bihar) and Ahmad Nazri (Johor Darul Takzim).
OKS’ Young Tigers are currently in Slovakia in their five-month playing tour against top Corgon Liga (Division One) teams as well as with other club sides from Hungary and the Czech Republic.
They will make their way to Russia next month for the WUG which will be held from July 6 to 17.
