Kelantan midfielder, Shakir Shaari, wrote on his Facebook page that he is among the 26 players that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have called up to represent Harimau Malaya for international duties next month.
The list includes regular faces like Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Safiq Rahim, Safee Sali, Nurul Azwan Roya - all from the Malaysian Super League side Johor Darul Takzim - and Mahali Jasuli, Malaysia's Cafu.
Badhri Radzi, who received his first ever call up in March this year, has been recalled to be part of K. Rajagopal’s side.
Surprise picks include Negeri Sembilan’s Nazrin Nawi, and Nizad Ayub who who currently plays for PKNS FC – both of them will be making first appearances in Malaysian colours.
The Malayan Tigers were initially set to face Singapore in a two-legged Causeway Challenge but the Football Association of Singapore have yet to make any confirmation.
As such, Malaysia’s team manager Datuk Subahan Kamal has come out saying that he has contingency plans to bring the squad to South Korea or Australia for friendly games there.
The team will have to report to Rajagopal on May 29 to prepare friendlies that include games against Europa League Winners Chelsea and La Liga Champions Barcelona later this year.
