Last night Selangor faced the challenge of Sai Gon Xuan Thanh at the Shah Alam Stadium and were convincing winners after goals from Michael Kubala, Francis Forkey Doe and Amri Yahyah sealed all three points for the Red Giants.
The visitors pulled one back via Moses Olaya's strike but Irfan Bakti’s side held on for the 3-1 win, lifting them from the bottom of Group H with four points – three above Singapore’s Tampines Rovers.
The Red Giants’ boss made several changes in his charges to rest players for important domestic league matches and he was pleased with the win.
“I really hope that my team can maintain this form of play,” Irfan said in the post-match press conference.
“There is still hope for us to get through and that is why we need to do everything to win next match,” he added.
On the topic of Selangor’s new signings, Irfan said: “I can’t say anything yet but for sure he is defender.
“We already had two players on trial.”
Sai Gon Xuan Thanh coach, Tran Tien Dai, was visibly upset after the loss but he was realistic after game.
“We lost and course we are upset.
“But to be truthful, we didn’t prepare well for this match because we were more focused on the game against Ayeyawady,” Tran said.
However, the Vietnamese continued to say that the training facilities weren’t up to par as they didn’t have the privacy to train here.
The Sai Gon boss further explained: “We were missing one of our key import players due to a visa problem.“But credit should be given to Forkey Doe – he is actually a very good player.”
