Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) must review Article 88 if it's against FIFA rulesShabery was speaking about the controversial Article 88, which forbids officials and players from criticising the national association.
According to Bernama, Shabery said: "We have to check if it's really against FIFA, if it is, then the FAM has to adjust the statute because they need to adjust to FIFA (rules)."
However, Shabery insisted that those under FAM leadership must follow the rules set by the institution as they have the power to make decisions. But he added that if any council members do disagree with the rules, then they must look to amend such articles through proper procedures and avenues only.
FAM's Article 88 Statute forbids anyone, including coaches and players from criticising the FAM or the national team.
Recently the FAM has suspended some of the big names in Malaysian football, such as Tan Sri Annuar Musa and the President of Perlis Football Association (PFA), Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, for criticising the FAM over match-fixing issues.
