Johor Darul Takzim and Kedah threw everything they had against each other but the Southern Tigers emerged victorious after a penalty shootout at Larkin. Khyril Muhymeen’ first-half brace was cancelled out by Dani Guiza’s in the second period which brought the game into extra time. Johor pressed for a goal but were visibly tired to really muster anything out. Kedah's Shazuan Ashraf Matthews was the only one to miss his spot kick as Johor advance 5-4 after penalties.
Over at Penang City stadium in George Town, Penang FA fell to a Terengganu side that were firing on all cylinders. A double from Malaysian international Ashaari Samsuddin and late goal from ‘super-sub’ Khairul ended the Panthers’ run in the Malaysia FA Cup. The home side were disappointed to have wasted chances and a penalty claim the never was.
Pahang FA welcomed ATM Tentera Darat FC to Kuantan and literally gave the visitors a lesson in football with a 7-1 score line. The Tok Gajah were relentless having snatched a four-goal advantage at the break with a brace from Azamuddin Akil and a goal each from Gopinathan and Faizol - all within 30 minutes. Azamuddin added another two to his name in the second-half while Borji put the nail in the coffin two minutes from time. ATM Tentera Darat managed a consolation through a penalty in the 68th minute but were never really coming back.
In other Malaysia FA Cup ties, Sarawak FA edged out PBAPP FC 2-0 with a goal in each half at Kuching. Negeri Sembilan knocked out Pos Malaysia with a similar score line after netting twice in the first period. They will go on to face Terengganu in the next round. Sime Darby FC earned the right to challenge Pahang FA in the quarter-finals after they upset T-Team 1-0 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah stadium. Selangor FA were unsurprising winners against Sabah in the away fixture which they won 3-0.
Kelantan FA’s home game with PKNS FC was postponed to a later date.
