The former Negeri Sembilan left back netted ATM's late equalizer against Kelantan last night but has distanced himself from being labeled as a 'hero' by fansJust as you thought Kelantan were going to complete a historic quadruple, Irwan Fadzly Idrus stepped and curled into the top corner to restore parity for ATM. It wasn't only a strike to bring ATM back into the game, but also to justify his mettle as a player that is rated highly by national team coach Datuk K. Rajagopal.
However, the talented left-back is refusing to be perceived as a 'hero' yet. His man of the match performance against Kelantan allowed ATM to claw back into the game and eventually win it on penalties but Irwan believes that the whole team should be credited for the come back.
"I am not a hero," he told Berita Harian.
"I will just take this victory as a gift from god. Kudos to my teammates as well for working their socks off. I would really like to thank them for making a big contribution and bringing home the first trophy of the season for us.
Irwan also went on to insist that ATM cannot get complacent with this victory and that they must use it as a springboard to fight for bigger achievements throughout the course of the season.
"This is a good start for the team and we must not stop. I really hope that we can continue improving our form and hopefully achieve something at the end of the season."
