ATM FA head coach B. Sathianathan has promised that his men will be fighting their socks off to win the Charity Shield match on Saturday. The Charity Shield has often been regarded as a minnow among the other trophies but Sathianthan insisted that ATM will be doing everything within their power to lift the trophy and kick start a bright new season.
"Eventhough the trophy isn't as prestigious as the other ones, but we are still taking the match seriously. Especially when you consider the fact that this could be a terrific opportunity for us to seek revenge against Kelantan, after they defeated us in the Malaysia Cup final last year," he told Berita Harian.
"Besides that, a win would boost our confidence ahead of the new season and will be doing our best to get just that."
The Gladiators lost several big name players during the off-season, especially Aidil Zafuan and Zaquan Adha. However, Sathia isn't mulling over it and is already confident enough with the new squad at his disposal.
They drafted in the likes of Shukor Adan, R. Surendran, Afizie Faisal Mamat and the ex-Kelantan head coach tipped his side to be among the four best teams in Malaysia next season.
"I think we can be among the top four in Malaysia. I now have a clear idea of my main 11 players after our 5-0 win against Pos Malaysia the other day."
ATM will take on Kelantan at the Shah Alam stadium this Saturday, before moving on to face LionsXII in their Malaysian Super League opening match in the following week.
