The veteran midfielder will be setting his sights of regaining the captaincy role for 2013, but could face competition from Lebanese defender Ramez Dayoub
Safiq has since departed to Johor Darul Takzim FC, leaving an empty void for the captaincy role. Amri is already a fan favourite in Selangor and will certainly be the major candidate. Nevertheless, there could be a rival in the form of Ramez Dayoub.
The Lebanese defender was a household figure in their defence last year, and has been given the armband at the ongoing Acheh Governor Cup in Indonesia. Nevertheless, head coach Irfan Bakti insisted that proper consideration will given to all candidates before announcing the permanent skipper for 2013.
"We will appoint a captain soon. Of course, I have candidates but I need to gauge each of them first before making a decision," Irfan told New Straits Times.
"After this tournament, we will play Perlis and Kedah in our final warm-up matches. I will use them to decide on my line-up for our opening Super League match against Negri Sembilan on Jan 8."
