Both men will be lining up for Darul Takzim FC next year, having previously featured alongside each other with Selangor in 2010
Nonetheless, Darul Takzim FC have secured the signature of the duo for next year, something that Safiq is really looking forward to.
"I am really excited to be playing alongside Safee again, after two long years," he told Berita Harian.
"Although we are used to playing with each other in the national team, playing together in a league team will do a great deal in further substantiating the understanding between us."
The former Selangor player was also quick to distance himself from rumours linking him to the captain role with Darul Takzim FC, claiming that the decision lies with the coach.
Nevertheless, Safiq promised to perform to his level best and help bring back the glory days of football in the Southern state.
"The decision lies with the coach [Fandi]. My main aim is to perform well for Darul Takzim FC and help them bring back the glory days of Johor football by winning silverwares. "
The Southern Tigers have been on a spending spree throughout the off-season period, signing the likes of Dani Guiza and Simone Del Nero. Besides Safee and Safiq, they have also snapped up Norshahrul Idlan, Muslim Ahmad, Aidil Zafuan and even Zaquan Adha as far as local players are concerned.
