The NFDP has selected 12-year-olds from a recently concluded junior football tourney to form a team that has been earmarked for the 2019 World Youth Cup
A total of 35 players have been identified and chosen by the National Football Development Programme (NFDP), to be part of the team that is being prepared for the Under-19 World Cup in 2019.
The programme’s coaching panel member, Mat Nor Bidin said the players chosen are from the teams that participated in the Champion of Champions Under-12 football tournament which was concluded on Sunday.
12 teams, including one from neighbouring Indonesia took part in the tournament. MyKids Kuala Lumpur took home the trophy after defeating MyKids Terengganu 4-3 on penalties.
Mat Nor told Bernama on Monday that all the boys who got picked will be placed in two sports schools next year. The schools chosen are Pahang Football Academy in Gambang and Bandar Penawar Sports School in Johor.
He also said that the players’ first task would be to get ready for the Under-13 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup next year.
