Malaysia FA Cup First Round Draw: Darul Takzim to face Perak as ATM get Selangor

This afternoon’s draw threw up some tasty ties, with the biggest one being the clash between MPL winners ATM and traditional powerhouse Selangor

The draw for next season’s FA Cup first round has produced a number of exciting ties between some of the big names in Malaysian football.

Moneybags Darul Takzim FC will get their early credentials tested by the Azraai Khor Abdullah coached Perak, while Malaysian Super League (MSL) runners-up LionsXII will have to play PKNS FC before thinking about a potential clash with title holders Kelantan in the next round.

Besides LionsXII, this year’s FA Cup also includes a second invitational team. Cambodia’s Preach Khan Reach will mark their debut in the competition with a home tie against PBAPP FC of Penang.

The biggest tie of the round however, will be between Malaysian Premier League (MPL) champions and Malaysia Cup’s losing finalists ATM, and former kingpins Selangor. The Red Giants will have the advantage of playing this match at their home venue, the Shah Alam Stadium.

Kelantan, and Sime Darby FC - who lost to the Red Warriors in last season’s final, will be exempted from playing in this round. The two teams have been given a bye as a result of their status as the top two teams in previous year’s competition.
