The Kelantan defensive general admits the threat possessed by Indonesia's midfield wizard, Andik Vermansyah
"They have a hardworking midfield and the key to our victory is to stop their midfield." he said to Astro Arena.
"And of course Andik (Vermansyah) will be given extra attention by our defence."
Shakir drew nationwide praise for his solid display alongside playmaker, Safiq Rahim in a dominant 4-1 win over Laos. The Kelantan defensive midfielder was selected for the game after a lacklustre display by Amar Rohidan who was criticised by the media and the Malaysian football fans for failing to anchor the defence.
It is safe to say that Shakir has now cemented his place in the starting line-up and will be key to the midfield department of the Malayan Tigers.
Andik Vermansyah on the other hand, was a catalyst during Indonesia's 1-0 win over Singapore with his swerving free kick being the only difference between the two sides.
The meeting between Malaysia and Indonesia tomorrow is a must win for the hosts to ensure qualification to the Semi Finals stage.
