Club-mates Azamuddin Akil and R.Gopinathan have been released from the national squad by Datuk K.Rajagopal after Malaysia's 1-1 friendly draw with Hong Kong
National head coach Datuk K.Rajagopal has sprung a major surprise by dropping Pahang winger Azamuddin Akil from the squad that is being prepared for next week’s AFF Suzuki Cup.
Azamuddin’s team-mate at club level - R.Gopinathan, also suffered the same fate following an insipid outing against Hong Kong on Wednesday.
The Kuala Lipis born Azamuddin has been a regular for the last one year under Rajagopal.
The move to drop both players comes in light of a series of disappointing performances for the national team - especially in the last three friendly matches, where Malaysia have lost twice, drew once and only managed to score one goal.
Rajagopal is expected to name his final 22 players for the regional tournament one day before the Malayan Tigers’ opening match against Singapore on November 25.
