Former Arsenal youth teamer Rhys Weston is anticipated to sign a one-year contract with Malaysian second division team Sabah this week
Sabah have announced the capture of former Arsenal and Dundee United defender, Rhys David Weston for the 2013 season.
The player attended trials with The Rhinos in Kota Kinabalu last month and is expected to sign a one-year contract with them in the next few days.
Sabah, who appointed Weston’s fellow Brit David McCreery as their new head coach after suffering relegation to the Malaysian Premier League (MPL) next season, have reportedly decided against renewing the contracts of last year’s imports - Australian Brendan Gan and German Hendrik Helmke.
Weston, who is a London native, started his footballing career with the Arsenal youth team in 1999 before embarking on a journey that took him to the football leagues of Wales, Norway, Iceland and Scotland.
The Welshman is now 32 years old and last played for Icelandic club KR Reykjavík. He also has 7 caps for the national team of Wales.
