Malaysian international Ahmad Fakri Saarani has been offered a chance to attend trials with a third division club in Portugal once the AFF Suzuki Cup is over.
The former Harimau Muda forward, who turned out for Felda United in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) this season, was approached by football agent Marco Guimaraes to undergo a five-day trial with Atletico Sport Clube, and has agreed to accept the invitation from the Terceira Division outfit.
The trial however, is only a formality as the club’s head coach is reportedly impressed enough with the 23-year-old’s ability after watching him on video, and the club has already prepared a six-month contract for him to sign on.
“I showed some videos of Fakri playing and it didn’t take them long to decide,” Guimaraes told The Star.
Fakri, who is training with the national squad at the moment, will head to the club’s base in Lisbon as soon as Malaysia’s participation in the regional tournament comes to an end.
Guimaraes, who had earlier engineered teenage midfielder Nazmi Faiz Mansor’s move to SC Beira-Mar in the same country, also confirmed that another six members of Ong Kim Swee’s Harimau Muda team have been identified for trials with several Portuguese clubs in the coming months.
The list of the players will be revealed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) soon.
