Forces and Warriors justify favourites tag with first leg wins

Kelantan get closer to a domestic treble with an away win against Felda United, while ATM shocked the titleholders with an overwhelming display

Felda United managed to contain the relentless Red Warriors of Kelantan in the first half, however just 10 minutes after the break, Nurul Azwan Roya silenced the home support to give Kelantan the lead. The visitors then doubled their lead through Indra Putra Mahayuddin, before Felda United’s Ezuan Razali scored four minutes from time to give the home team some hope for when both teams meet again for the second-leg in the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium on Tuesday.

The Gladiators of ATM continued their excellent form as they dispatched Negeri Sembilan by a 3-2 scoreline in a dominant display at the Selayang Stadium. The first half of the match was uneventful however it didn’t take long for the match to spring into life after the restart as D. Christie Jayaseelan opened the scores for the home team.  Argentine Bruno Martelotto then scored the second goal of the game just minutes after the restart. Mohd Firdaus Azizul pulled one back for Negeri Sembilan but Skipper Hairuddin Omar quickly restored ATM’s two-goal lead in the 80th minute.  A minute from time, a late strike from Ahmad Shakir Mohd Ali gave Sembilan a precious goal that may just be the goal they need to recover the tie in the second-leg.

There will another four matches in the Malaysia Cup this week, with all four Quarter Final second-legs taking place. Kelantan FA, Negeri Sembilan FA, Lions XII and Selangor FA all host their opponents this coming Tuesday.
