Bojan Hodak comments after losing 6-2 on aggregate to Iraqi Premier League champions Arbil SC in the AFC Cup quarter-final
After being eliminated from the AFC Cup by Iraqi side Arbil SC, Kelantan coach Bojan Hodak chose to look at the positives stating that qualifying for the quarter finals of this year’s competition bodes well for the Red Warriors.
“I can say we played much better today compared with how we played in Iraq. We had several changes to the line-up; it’s good to see that we (can) fight.”
On the aggregate loss Bojan said, “Looking at the game play, we were the better team on the pitch (tonight). But against West Asian teams if you make a mistake, they’ll punish you.
“Arbil had two or three chances, and they took their chances. We unfortunately, had much more chances, shots on goals, but we failed to use it.” He added.
When asked about his plans for Kelantan for next season the coach said “We will come (back) stronger next season. We will have several players who will join us again next season; I think we can challenge teams like Arbil.”
Kelantan were missing a number of key players in this year’s AFC Cup campaign including Rizal Fahmi and S. Chanturu, who were both unavailable through injury. The team did try and replace them with Mijo Dadic and Keita Mandjou, however both players were unable to take part due to registration problems.
Hodak was also asked about the upcoming match against Felda United in the quarter final of the 2012 Malaysia Cup, “They once won against us (this season), it will be tough game, but we want the cup this year, plus, we are the favourites.”
