Malaysia coach to “wait and see how the matter progresses”

Malaysian national side's head coach K.Rajagopal says the problems in Terengganu’s team will not determine who gets picked for his team

The much-publicised friction in the Terengganu team between coach Peter Butler and some players will not influence national coach Datuk K.Rajagopal’s squad selection.

Rajagopal has named defender Muslim Ahmad and goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawee Ramli as back-up players for the main squad of 25 players called up last month to face Vietnam on September 11 in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium.

"I will wait and see how this matter progresses," Rajagopal told Berita Harian when asked about the sacking of Muslim and Ismail Faruqi Ashari by Butler last week.

"Right now, the list is permanent and there is no change. The players mentioned are only there on standby in case of any injury."

The former Selangor coach however refused to make any comments on whether Butler’s action to go to the media about his team's internal problems could affect the future of the players.

Englishman Butler told the media last week that Muslim and Ismail will never play in his team while he remains in charge, for breaking team rules and Sharbinee now looks set to suffer the same fate for his conduct after getting substituted in Terengganu’s last match against Kedah.
