Vjeran Simunic, Brunei DPMM FC’s European head coach believes Harimau Muda’s Wan Zack Haikal would have no problems playing in Europe
Vjeran Simunic was left in no doubt that Malaysian youngster Wan Zack Haikal deserves to ply his trade in Europe after watching the Harimau Muda winger dish out an outstanding performance in an S-League game.
The Croatian coach of Brunei DPMM FC saw Wan Zack score a goal in Harimau Muda’s 2-1 win over his side at the Bandar Seri Begawan Stadium on Sunday and told a post-match press conference that he rates Malaysian players highly.
“Their skipper Mahalli Jasuli is good, and Wan Zack, I think half of Europe is after him. This team can easily be champions,” Simunic told sleague.com.
Simunic definitely knows a thing or two about playing at the top level in Europe, having represented Hadjuk Split and Sporting Lisbon among others during his playing career and the 58-year-old’s assessment comes as a ringing endorsement of Malaysian footballers’ ability.
Harimau Muda coach Ong Kim Swee was also pleased with Wan Zack’s efforts in the game and praised the team for the hard work they collectively put in.
“Wan Zack and Wan Zaharulnizam scored but I have to credit our win to team effort. The two players have certainly gained experience from their trials in Japan.”
Kim Swee’s team is currently fifth in the 13-team S-League with 29 points, eight points off the top spot, but with two games in hand over leaders Albirex Niigata.
