The touring Malaysian national football team started their series of friendlies against European clubs with a loss to a Hungarian second division outfit
Malaysia’s training squad kicked-off their European tour with a 2-0 defeat to Gyirmot Gyor FC on Thursday morning in Budapest, Hungary.
The Malayan Tigers are currently based in Vienna, Austria for a centralized training camp from August 4 to 16. The camp is part of the team’s preparation for their defence of the AFF Suzuki Cup in November this year.
The Hungarian second division club, managed by former international Janos Csank, opened the scoring in the 30th minute through midfielder Norbert Toth before striker Magasfoldi Jozsef sealed the win with a goal two minutes into injury time.
Datuk K.Rajagopal’s men will next take on Austrian club TSV Hartberg in four days’ time before wrapping up their tour with a game against Szombathely Haladas FC, another Hungarian club, on August 14.
The defeat comes a day after the latest FIFA rankings showed the Malaysian national football team to be in the 157th position.
