Defending champions Negeri Sembilan are all set for the Malaysia Cup after beefing up their squad with three players, as they enter the last chance saloon
Last season’s surprise winners Negeri Sembilan have finished doing their business for this month’s Malaysia Cup.
Coach Azraai Khor Abdullah has brought in three players on loan – Khairul Izuan Abdullah (Police), K.Thanaraj (Sabah) and Azmeer Yusof (Pos Malaysia) to add some much needed depth to his squad.
The former Kedah coach is confident in his team’s ability to defend the title they won by beating Terengganu last year.
“Our preparation is going according to plan based on the team’s performance in the five friendlies which we won,” Azraai told The Star.
“But it’s not the results of our friendlies that make me feel confident, rather it’s the combination and performances of the players. The on-loan players have gelled well with the others and everything is falling into place perfectly.
“I’m impressed with Khairul and Thanaraj’s performances on the flanks as their crosses into the box have turned (Jean-Emmanuel) Owona into a more lethal striker.”
‘The Deers’ will play two more friendlies, against Johor and Johor FC at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on August 11 and 14 respectively, before opening their Malaysia Cup campaign away at Felda United FC eight days later.
The Malaysia Cup represents Negeri’s last chance to win a trophy after getting knocked out in the first round of the FA Cup and finishing sixth in the Malaysian Super League (MSL).
