About 5000 local and foreign Arsenal fans descended upon the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last night to catch a glimpse of their heroes in training.
Despite the fasting month of Ramadan, many fans came in early to get seats with the best views and ensure that they did not miss out on watching their favourite players in flesh.
Although the crowd was smaller compared to the one that turned up last year at the same venue, the enthusiasm level was all the same. The fans came clad proudly in their Arsenal tops from different seasons and broke into cheers when Arsenal’s 24 players entered the pitch to start the training session. The training was overseen by manager Arsene Wenger and lasted two hours.
The Arsenal squad is missing key players such as Robin van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky, Laurent Koscielny, Bacary Sagna and new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud; however they still boast a number of impressive first team players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Alex Song, Theo Walcott, Wojciech Szczesny, Thomas Vermaelen, Abou Diaby, Andre Santos, Gervinho and Mikel Arteta.
The far east tour also gives the products of Arsenal's famed youth system the chance to shine. Players such as Kyle Bartley, Benik Afobe, Francis Coquelin, Ryo Miyaichi, Craig Eastmond, Nico Yennaris, Ignasi Miquel, Chuks Aneke and Thomas Eisfeld will all be eager to impress.
