Former powerhouses go head-to-head in Malacca in their struggle to stay in the top flight
Kedah and Sabah play each other in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) play-off semi-final tomorrow at the Hang Tuah Stadium in Malacca, hoping to book a place in the final on Thursday.
Kedah welcome head coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan back from leave and he is expected to have a virtually full-strength squad to choose from. All the injured players, including Croatian striker Vedran Gerc, are expected to be back in contention for this must win fixture. The only player unavailable is goalkeeper Helmi Eliza Elias, who is serving suspension for his red card against Perak last week.
Sabah, boosted by their youth team’s gold medal success in Saturday’s SUKMA football final, will have hot-shot Rozaimi Rahman and Leopold Alfonso Otong back at their disposal. 'The Rhinos' will be looking to Australian Brendan Gan to take control of the midfield in his battle with Kedah’s main man Baddrol Bakhtiar.
Sabah had a better record against 'The Canaries' in the league this season with a win and a draw but Kedah pipped the side from Borneo on goal difference to qualify for the prestigious Malaysia Cup, which begins next month.
However, both teams ended-up in the play-offs after failing to finish among the ten best local teams in this season’s MSL.
