Harimau Muda squad set for the Java Cup with coach Ong Kim Swee looking to bring along a number of MSL players
Due to the busy friendly schedule of the senior national team, Malaysia will be represented by Ong Kim Swee’s Harimau Muda squad at the inaugural Java Cup.
It was also confirmed that Kim Swee is looking towards the Malaysian Super League (MSL) to call-up at least five senior players who are not in Datuk K.Rajagopal’s squad to be drafted into the team heading to Indonesia.
Speaking to local daily Harian Metro, Kim Swee said that the absence of key players: Nazmi Faiz Mansor (who has joined up with his Portuguese club Beira Mar for pre-season training), Wan Zack and Wan Zaharulnizam (the duo are both in Japan for trials with a local club) prompted him to turn to MSL players. Kim Swee is also deprived of the services of captain Mahali Jasuli, defender Mohd Fadhli Shas and Rozaimi Rahman. All three players have been named in the senior squad instead.
With Malaysia set to face Turkish giants Galatasaray, Kim Swee could lean towards picking experienced players like Hairuddin Omar of ATM and the Kelantan skipper Badri Radzi in order to help his young guns out. If Malaysia get past Galatasaray, they will come up against either Indonesia or Everton, who face each other.
The competition will take place in Jakarta at the end of this month, from 26 to 29 July.
