Football nomad is on course to add another title to his long list of honours and help the Armed Forces write a piece of history in the process
When it comes to successful journeymen footballers in Malaysia, one can look no further than veteran Hairuddin Omar of the Armed Forces of Malaysia.
The Terengganu native can claim to have seen it all after beginning his football career with home state Terengganu in 1999. Since making his debut, he has represented five different clubs before joining the ATM. Capped 53 times by the national team, the forward joined his current team after helping Negeri Sembilan lift the Malaysia Cup last year.
Known in Malaysia for his knack of scoring spectacular and often, crucial goals, Hairuddin has won titles with every team he has played for with the exception of club side T-Team, for whom he played briefly in 2009.
The four time Malaysia Cup winner is now about to write another story of his own in Malaysian football by helping ATM, otherwise known as “The Gladiators” clinch the Premier League title tonight. To do that however, they need to beat Muar Municipal Council at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, which would also automatically end the slim title-winning chances of their nearest challenger Pahang.
If successful, it would be the first time both Hairuddin and ATM taste success in the Premier League.
