It is believed that several players who played against Malaysia U-22 are over aged. The two prominent players in question are, Kaung Si Thu and Thet Naing.Age fraud in association football is a well established problem for FIFA. In the year 1989, Nigeria’s national youth teams were banned by FIFA due to fielding over aged players in FIFA organized youth tournaments.
Amidst the win secured by Myanmar U-22 over Malaysia U-22 two days ago, there are brewing controversies surrounding it. It is believed that several players who played against Malaysia are over aged. The two prominent players in question are, Kaung Si Thu and Thet Naing.
An article from Myanmar Times headlined "Age manipulation harmful, say coaches” in February affirmed that striker, Kaung Si Thu who scored two goals in the 2-1 win is over the age of 22 whilst Thet Naing, in accordance to the information from his club’s website, Yadanarbon FC is already 23 years old of age. The same article also disclosed that its national football federation has an unofficial policy of age manipulation.
Coach Ong Kim Swee was quoted to have said upon his arrival in Kuala Lumpur that he would lodge a complaint with the evidence to FAM for further action according to New Straits Time.
