The title race shapes up after a break from the FA Cup with LionsXII pushing closer to the summit than most would have expected
Kuala Lumpur FA bowed down to Negeri Sembilan FA with 2 goals, despite the early goal from Afiq Azmi giving the home team an early lead. Shakir Ali converted a penalty for an equaliser, and a goal from Shahurain Abu Samah wrapped up the game late in the second-half. Kuala Lumpur FA will be wondering what went wrong for them with not a single game, yet to be won.
Kedah cruised to a comfortable win against Perak FA at home with a stellar performance from Hamidan Mohammed. The Ghanaian was named the man of the match after he netted two goals for the home team. To add much despair on Perak, Perak’s defender Syazwan Roslan conceded an own goal. Despite losing, Perak is still positioned over Kedah in the standings.
Terengganu FA were tied to a goalless draw against Johor FC in a home match despite holding more possession compared to their opponent. Many had expected Terengganu FA to win the match comfortably, but Johor FC handled the pressure well and managed to bring home a point.
LionsXII last gasp penalty sunk T-Team FC after a resilient performance by the visitor. Shahril Ishak scored an opener for LionsXII 10 minutes before half-time. Zairo Anuar Zalani struck a goal back for an equaliser for T-Team FC just three minute later. A foul from defender Norfazly bin Alias penalised T-Team FC for a penalty, and Shahdan Sulaiman calmly converted the to grab the win for the home team.
Selangor FA settled again for another draw, after yet again letting the opponents to lead first. Michael Baird gave Sabah FA an early goal and looked very comfortable to maintain the lead for the home team until the break. Selangor FA finally found the equaliser through defender, P. Gunalan and the scoreline stayed the same until the final whistle.
Sarawak FA returned to its winning form after losing out on 3 previous matches by a single goal margin. PKNS FC managed to only grab a consolation goal through Khairu Azrin. Sarawak’s promising youngster, Ashri Chuchu netted twice, with Mohd Shahrol Saperi opening the scoring, and Vedran Muratovic to finally get on the scoresheet for Sarawak. With the 4-1 away win, Sarawak FA leapfrog Sabah FA in the standings while PKNS FC stay in the same position.
Kelantan FA showed no mercy by beating Felda United FC with a confident performance. The Red Warriors netted 5 times with Onyekachi Nwoha scoring twice, Norfarhan Mohamad and Indra Putra firing a quick double salvo, and finally Badri Radzi completing the rout for Kelantan FA. Felda United had earlier grabbed an equaliser with a goal from Azrul Ahmad, but Kelantan FA proved to be too dominant to be handled.
Negeri Sembilan FA's unbeaten home run was finally ended by LIONSXII in a thrilling encounter. LIONSXII had a lead through Safuwan Baharudin and not long after that, another goal by Khairul Nizam added to the home team's misery. G. Mahathevan then blasted a goal for Negeri Sembilan with hoped of a comeback halfway through the first half. Just minutes before half-time, captain Shahril Ishak added a third for the Lions. Playmaker Shahdan Sulaiman then scored the final goal for LIONSXII. Shukor Adan headed home a consolation goal to make it two for Negeri Sembilan FA, but it proved to be too little too late for the home team as the visitors cruised comfortably to grab 3 points.
With that win, LIONSXII leapfrog Kelantan FA as the new league leader by a point but with having played two games more.
