The LionsXll midfielder admits to feeling the pressure when stepping up for the late penalty but was happy with the team's victory
The LionsXll managed to record a solid 2-1 win over visiting T-Team at the Jalan Besar Stadium to keep up the pace with leaders Kelantan FA.
Midfielder Shahdan Sulaiman was the hero of the day as he successfully converted a penalty, five minutes before the game ended, giving the Lions all three points.
And the twenty-three years old confessed to Goal.com Singapore after the match that he was feeling the heat when he stood up to take the penalty.
“When I was taking it, I definitely felt the pressure.
“I [took a] look at the time, it was about 84 minutes plus, so I thought I have to convert this, if we were to win the game.” said a much relieved Shahdan.
The midfield maestro was superb throughout the game, spreading beautiful passes to his team mates and pulling the lines in the centre of the park for his team.
When asked if he is happy with his performance, the humble Shahdan replied, “Most importantly the team won and I think that it’s up to the coach to judge for himself [if I performed well].”
Prior to his match-winning goal, Lions captain Shahril Ishak opened the scoring in the 50th minute but T-Team’s captain Zairo Anuar equalized three minutes later.
Shahril then had a glorious chance to put the team in front, after the referee gave the home side a penalty, but the Young Turtles’ custodian Iqbal Suhimi brilliantly blocked his attempt.
Shahdan then admitted that the miss affected the team morale and said, “A bit ah, I feel. But after that, we picked ourselves up to go for a win.”
He then concluded and said, “[The whole team is] happy and closing the gap with the leaders is the most important, [because] we are close to the leaders and we are up there.”
