The Argentine insists his side remain a force to be reckoned with despite the exit of several key players this summer, including Diego Costa, after their Liga-winning season
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believes his side have a fearsome attack going into the new season, thus ruling out a move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.
The Spanish champions lost Diego Costa and David Villa from their front line this summer but have added Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann and Raul Jimenez in recent weeks.
As a result, the Argentine feels that his side are well placed to challenge for top honours this season once more thanks to their busy summer of business, and has hinted that he has no interest in re-signing the Chelsea striker.
"I think as a coach when you're not normally super powerful economically you have to adapt to situations," he told La Sexta.
"And in building a team the coach gives ideas of what he would like. I as a coach like characters of his type and the club looks for economic opportunities closer to the needs of the coach.
"I'm happy. There is no point imagining situations and I think with the signing of Jimenez we have completed the characters we need in the team.
"I think that having Antoine Griezmann, Raul Garcia, Mario Mandzukic and Jimenez means we have significant offensive power."
Costa and Villa were not the only stars to leave the club this summer, with Thibaut Courtois' loan spell ending and Filipe Luis moving on - both joining Costa at Chelsea - but Simeone feels the core of his Liga-winning team remains.
"Miranda, Diego Godin, Gabi, Koke, Mario Suarez, Tiago and Arda Turan are the strongest part of the team," he told reporters.
"It's true that players have left and the obviously the situation has changed. With this change, we must start again and move on calmly.
"It would have been better if the players who have left had chosen to stay but you have to respect them because they gave everything.
"The team still has its structure and have a DNA which Gabi, Miranda, Mario Suarez, Tiago, Koke and Raul Garcia embody and we can continue to build.
"I am convinced that the club are working to give me the best chance."
