The Catalans won La Liga with a record-equalling 100 points last year but look set to finish third this time around, with Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Getafe having all but ended their hopes of retaining their Primera Division title.
Consequently, while Barta is pleased with the progress he has made over the past nine months, he acknowledges that he and his Barca team-mates are facing a summer of introspection.
“I think we have to analyse what happened, be critical without ourselves and think about the future," the centre-half told reporters.
“We have to try and grow as a team, both personally and collectively.
“I’ve grown a lot as a player, but on a collective level we didn’t manage to reach our goal.”
Bartra also admitted that Barca were punished for their profligacy against Getafe, having twice been pegged back by their relegation-threatened rivals.
“We didn’t kill the game off and that came back to bite us," the 23-year-old lamented.
Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez both netted for the Blaugrana but Angel Lafita's double earned the visitors a draw.
