The midfielder took Los Colchoneros' physical approach to their 2-2 draw on Sunday in his stride and says that the intensity was just that of a typical derby encounter
Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti complained after the match that the home side made the derby a violent affair with their aggressive behaviour and the Spain international agrees that Atleti employed some rough tactics.
"The game was very rough with lots of fouls, lots of complaints, but that's nothing new here. You have to take it in your stride," the experienced midfielder told Marca.
"And we know we have to put up with that when we come to the Calderon or when they come to us.
"All the matches against them are very intense."
Madrid grabbed an early lead at the Calderon through Karim Benzema but Alonso did not feel that the Frenchman's strike gave them as much of a boost as it might have done.
"With such an early goal we weren't as fluid or attack-minded as we should have been," he observed.
"We were being more conservative and we conceded two goals from two mistakes."
