Alexis: Madrid derby draw perfect for Barcelona

The Chilean attacker was pleased to see both of the Catalans' title rivals drop points and is keen to get his side back to the top of the table again as soon as possible
Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez believes that Sunday's 2-2 draw between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid was the perfect result for his side.

The reigning champions closed the gap to leaders Madrid to just one point after beating Almeria 4-1 on the same day, while they now hold a two-point lead over third-placed Atleti.

"The result from the Madrid derby was very good for us but the most important thing is that we did our own job well," the Chile international told the club's official website.

"We secured three more points and now we're just one behind Real Madrid. We have to try and get the top spot of the table back as soon as possible."

Alexis then briefly reflected on Barca's latest victory and felt that they could have scored even more goals with a bit of luck.

"We had chances to score more goals," he noted, "but Almeria defended well."

Alexis scored once in Sunday's victory to take his tally to 16 goals in 22 Primera Division appearances this term.
