thumbnail Hello,

The Spain star has responded to complaints by Real Madrid players about an unawarded penalty for Cristiano Ronaldo in Saturday's Clasico duel at Camp Nou

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas says his side should have been given a penalty against Real Madrid after he was felled by Pepe during the Clasico clash.

The Blaugrana beat their arch-rivals 2-1 on Saturday to extend the gap between them in La Liga to six points, courtesy of goals from Neymar and Alexis Sanchez.

And, after the match, Sergio Ramos had voiced his dismay over an ungiven spot kick when he claimed Javier Mascherano had fouled Cristiano Ronaldo shortly after the opener.

However, Fabregas feels the complaint by the defender is nothing more than an excuse for defeat and pointed out a similar incident between him and Pepe during the game.

"They lost and are looking for an excuse," the 26-year-old was quoted as saying by Marca.

"I should have had a penalty. Pepe took my legs away but it was not awarded".

Table-toppers Barcelona have put daylight between themselves and Real, though Atletico Madrid - who sit second - can reduce the deficit to a point with a win over Betis on Sunday.
