The Atletico Madrid chief has little doubt that the newly signed Spain international has what it takes to succeed at the club to make the fans forget about the Colombian striker
The Colombian left the Liga outfit for Monaco earlier this summer for a transfer fee in the region of €60 million (£51.9m) but the Vicente Calderon side look set to secure the services of the 31-year-old Spain star after agreeing a deal worth €5.1 million (£4.4m) with Barcelona on Monday.
"It is not easy to replicate the goals of Falcao but Villa can compensate very well," Cerezo told Radio Nacional de Espana. "He has many seasons of football left and is a born goalscorer.
"Villa will hope for everything because it is important to be selected for Spain. We expect him to target a lot of goals.
"The price we have paid is the lowest possible. We are particularly pleased."
Atletico moved quickly to beat out Tottenham to the striker's signature, with Cerezo pleased to have secured him ahead of other top clubs.
"We have beaten many Spanish and foreign teams to Villa. It is important business that we have done," he remarked. "Villa is a player we have wanted for a long time and that is why it is a great satisfaction.
"We are happy and I think the fans are going crazy because they thought he was going to go to an important English team."
