The Argentine has called on Atletico Madrid to move on from the achievements of last season, so that they may set forth to meet objectives next term with the right motivation
Los Rojiblancos won the Europa League title last season, but the 42-year-old has been quick to remind his charges of the task at hand in focusing on the new campaign ahead.
"To begin meeting the first objective, we have to forget what we have done recently," Simeone told assembled reporters at a press conference.
"The requirements of a club like Atletico Madrid are not covered by past results. We have a solid squad foundation to count on in the upcoming term, aided by some excellent signings.
"Emre Belozoglu will come in to support the centre, Daniel Diaz will boost our abilities at the back and Christian Rodriguez will roam our flanks."
The Europa League winners are in Colombia where they will take on local side Atletico Nacional in a friendly on Thursday, a fixture Simeone is relying on to gauge the true preparedness level of the squad.
"In principle, I like to deal with South American teams because I come from this side of the world, but more so because of the fervour they always adopt when they play against teams from Europe.
"Their football will be intense, forcing us to compete. This is the significant competition in the form we're looking for."
