The Argentina international revealed how his Portuguese coach persuaded him to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu despite being pursued by clubs such as Juventus and PSGGonzalo Higuain has admitted that he opted to stay with Real Madrid this summer after Jose Mourinho assured him in a meeting that he still has a role to play at the Liga champions.
The Argentine striker was linked with clubs such as Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus over the past few months, but Higuain has no intention to leave the Santiago Bernabeu any time soon.
"The fact Mourinho talked to me and the support of my family and my team-mates gave me strength to stay on and be optimistic for the coming season," Higuain stated at a press conference.
"This year I'm able to start work at the beginning of the pre-season and I'm really looking forward to it. I feel strong. I'm as excited as the first day I arrived here and looking forward to winning titles.
"I will fight as I fought the first day I arrived. I'm headstrong and I don't regret anything I've done here."
The 24-year-old attacker netted 22 goals in 35 La Liga appearances in 2011-12.
