The Vicente Calderon outfit finished fifth in La Liga and also won the Europa League and the Argentine trainer is eager to build on their performance next term
The Vicente Calderon outfit just missed out on the Champions League qualification places by finishing fifth in La Liga, and also beat Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final.
The Argentine trainer is pleased with the work he has undertaken in the Spanish capital, and is eager to improve further next season.
"The balance of the season is positive because the team has found an identity and been competitive,” Marca reports the South American as saying.
“We have achieved an important goal in winning the Europa League and that gives us confidence and has worked out rather well.
“It is healthy what has happened to us in the championship. Winning the Europa League and fighting to the end to try and finish fourth shows the group had the strength to compete in the league and in Europe.
“That gives strength to continue building the team,” he admitted.
Simeone took charge of Los Rojiblancos on December 23, 2011 replacing Gregorio Manzano who had been sacked.
