Los Blancos' technical director says the Argentine has proved to be an important asset for the team this season and would be delighted if he commits himself to the clubMiguel Pardeza says he is hoping Gonzalo Higuain will stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer following the side's 2-1 win over Granada on Saturday, despite reports suggesting that the striker will leave the club.
The former River Plate attacker has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season after growing fed up of competing with Karim Benzema for the lone striker's role in the team.
However, he remains an important player for Madrid, as shown by his 22 Liga goals this season, and their technical director has stated it would delight the Blancos if the Argentine chose to stay put.
"He is a great striker and has shown it this season," Pardeza said after the game.
"He has a contract in place and we would be delighted if he stayed with us. The coach has full faith in him."
Pardeza then reflected on Cristiano Ronaldo's season, and the ex-Zaragoza man insists he has done everything he possibly could for a successful campaign, despite the exploits of Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.
"Cristiano cannot do anything more," he continued. "He set goals for himself at the start of the year, and his season has been remarkable."
Lastly, the Madrid official gave his thoughts on the match against Granada, and stated: "It's been a very long and demanding season, but this team has suffered and the goal was to win the league, so it was inevitable that the team would take a breather."
