MSL Round Report: Title race set to go down to the wire

Fans of both Selangor and JDT will have to anxiously wait until the final matchday to decide who will lift the Malaysia Super League crown

JDT and Selangor fans will have to wait until the last match to decide which team will be lifting the MSL title after they won against their respective opponents. JDT earned the three points they needed to remain on top with a home win against Kelantan. Amirulhadi Zainal was the hero of the team with a wonderful display. He scored the first goal after a through PASS from Safiq Rahim. In the second half, Nazrin Nawi added another goal for the team to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute. Figueora scored the last goal in the final minute of the game to end the game with an impressive 3-0 victory to the Southern Tigers.

Second-placed Selangor earned three points with the same scoreline 3-0 against Sarawak at Shah Alam Stadium. The home side had to wait until the 42nd minute before Paolo Rangel scored the first goal for Selangor with a sweet volley. After the break, The Red Giants scored two more goals again from Paolo Rangel (61') and Hazwan Bakri (65') to make the scoreline 3-0 until the end of time. The win put Selangor just one point off JDT.

Pahang entertained PKNS FC in a match which saw the home side winning by 2-1. The first half was equally fought between both teams with the game ending 0-0 at the break. The Elephants tried a different approach in the second half and managed to break the opponents' defence with the first goal from Azidan Sarudin just two minutes after the second half commenced. Seven minutes later Saifulnizam Miswan made it 2-0 for the home side but the opponents pulled one back through Karlo Primorac just two minutes before the end of game to make the scoreline 2-1. With the defeat, PKNS FC are the first team to be relegated to Malaysian Premier League.

In another match in East Coast saw Terengganu had to settle with a draw against ATM. The goals came in the second half of the game with Nor Farhan scored first for The Turtles in the 59th minute. The game was closely fought by the two sides and the Gladiators managed to equalize from Fabrice Noel in the 64th minute and ended the game with 1-1.

In Singapore, LionsXII battled Perak in a match which saw the visitors winning by 2-0. Abdulafees Abdulsalam scored first to give the team an early lead in the 17th minute. The Bos Gaurus were the better team that night and they scored again in the 65th minute through Milan Purovic. Perak needed to win in their final match to remain in the MSL next season.

Meanwhile, Sime Darby FC faced off against T-Team with both teams sharing a point each. T-Team who needed three points in this match scored first in the 8th minutes through Patrich Wanggai to give survival hopes for the team to remain in the MSL next season. But the home side scored an equalizer through Fadzli Saari in the 22nd minute to put the game 1-1 until the final whistle.
