It was almost expected. After their abysmal performance against Costa Rica, a strong response from Uruguay was somewhat necessary. And their intention was reiterated when Luis Suarez was included in the starting line up.

From the offset, the Liverpool forward caused plenty of trouble to the England defence, dragging them apart with his runs off the ball. That often opened up space for Cavani, though due credit must be given towards the England defence for coping.

But when Cavani scooped the ball over the England defence, there was no stopping Suarez as he smartly angled his header to beat Joe Hart and put his side ahead at half time.

In the second half, England starved firing on all cylinders but Uruguay were happy to sit back and play deep because they could pump the ball towards Suarez, who was wreaking havoc all night long.

England did find the equalizer through a close range finish from Rooney, but Uruguay kept pushing on the counter

And that eventually lead to the second goal as Muslera's launched ball was ironically played into Suarez's path via a Gerrard header, and the Liverpool forward made no mistakes by firing home to seize an impeccable 2-1 win.
