thumbnail Hello,

Seeking revenge for their 1-4 hammering by JDT in February, league leaders Selangor also aim to widen the gap with the chasing pack. Goal take a look at the key match-ups

FARIZAL MARLIAS
VS LUCHO FIGUEROA

Selangor may have scored only four goals in their last five games, but they’ve also conceded none in the same spell. Much of this defensive resilience is down to coach Mehmet Durakovic’s tactics, but their goalkeeper has been an absolute wall at the back. Goal’s Southeast Asian Player of the Week, Farizal has kept 10 clean sheets this season, and will look to make amends after conceding four goals to JDT in February.

The league’s second-highest scorer with 9, Luciano Figueroa has netted four in his last three games, and one wouldn’t bet against him continuing that run against Selangor, due to his surprisingly excellent understanding with new recruit (and compatriot) Jorge Pereyra Diaz.

ANDIK VERMANSYAH
VS JORGE DIAZ

This will be more of a personal battle, instead of a direct head-to-head one. Both wingers will face each other on the same flank (with Andik a right-winger, while Diaz plays on the left), and will compete to see who will have the bigger influence on his team’s fortunes.

Andik is coming off game-winning contributions in his last two matches, while Diaz has had a terrific start to the Super League, having a hand in JDT’s last five goals, including the winner against Lions XII on Tuesday.

PAULO RANGEL
VS MARCOS ANTONIO

Goals decide matches, and Paulo Rangel is all about scoring them. 11 league goals in 16 games; left foot, right foot, header, penalties, free-kicks (okay, maybe not from direct free-kicks), Paulo nets them all. Undoubtedly the Red Giants’ key player, he’s been involved in the four goals (scoring two, assisting two) Selangor have scored in their last five games.

The man charged with stopping him will be Marcos Antonio, JDT’s recent acquisition from FC Nuremburg. Having missed JDT’s last match against Lions XII, Antonio will be fresh and ready to shackle the league’s top scorer. Dominant in the air and adept at bringing the ball out of the defence, this will be an intriguing all-Brazilian match-up.
