With only 2 months left in the Premier League, the title race gave us another twist this weekend. Aston Villa gave Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal a chance to rein in Chelsea after their win at Villa Park. All 3 teams had to do their part and they did.

Arsenal won a tightly contested North London Derby to set up nicely their own clash with Chelsea next week. An early Tomas Rosicky goal was the only goal in the match where Spurs dominated possession, requiring Arsenal defenders be on their best and they did.

After the match against Stoke where he conceded penalty, Laurent Koscielny could look back fondly on his performance since. This derby showing caps off a solid and dependable output from the French centre back.

As Spurs peppers the Arsenal goal with shots and Wojciech Szczesny making rash decisions, there was plenty for Koscielny to do. That block from Chadli in particular, was simply body-on-the-line kind of stuff. Emmanuel Adebayor can be a difficult customer when he wants to be and this match was one such occasion. However he simply had no answer to Koscielny's consummate reading and tackling.

The dogged defending and continuous blossoming of the partnership between Koscielny and Mertesacker is a joy ro watch for Gooners all over the world. With 2 back to back tough fixtures coming up, Koscielny will be hoping that he can keep producing high quality defending to help Arsenal capture their first league title since 2004.
